Exploring the Enchanting Wonders of Pairi Daiza: A Springtime Escapade

Pairi Daiza

Introduction

Enhanced by my partner and I’s shared passion for animals, the allure of Pairi Daiza was further heightened. Situated in Brugelette within the province of Hainaut, it is proudly the largest animal park in Belgium.

Boasting a remarkable collection of over 550 species and an impressive array of more than 7000 animals, this park has garnered the prestigious title of “Best Animal Park in Europe” for several consecutive years. As you embark on a journey through Belgium, prioritise visiting Pairi Daiza, a destination that captures the essence of nature’s beauty.

Atmosphere and First Impressions

Stepping through Pairi Daiza’s entrance felt like crossing into a fairytale realm. The park’s ability to seamlessly transition between thematic areas added to its unique charm, creating a harmonised mix of cultures that seemed like they belonged.

The Accommodation

For those seeking an immersive escape like no other, Pairi Daiza offers the unique opportunity to spend the night within its enchanting realm. Imagine falling asleep to the gentle sounds of nature and waking up to the rustling of leaves. The park’s accommodations blend adventure and tranquillity, turning your visit into a multi-day experience.

The lodgings within Pairi Daiza are as diverse as the park’s themes. From rustic cabins nestled among lush foliage to elegant suites overlooking tranquil ponds, each accommodation is a portal to a different world. The seamless integration of these lodgings with nature creates an unparalleled sense of serenity.

One of the most enchanting aspects of an overnight stay is the chance to observe the park’s residents during the quieter hours. Some animals become more active under the moon’s soft glow, showing their nocturnal behaviours. It’s a mesmerising experience to witness creatures that might have been elusive during the day.

Tiger House: A Roar of a Night’s Stay

For our overnight stay at Pairi Daiza, we had the privilege of staying at the Tiger House. In the park’s heart, this unique accommodation provided more than just a room; it offered a front-row seat to the Siberian tigers` enclosure. These rooms’ dark colours and rustic ambience transported us into the heart of the Taiga, into the Siberian forest.

Stepping into the bathroom was an experience – enveloped in a mineral, natural atmosphere that radiated tranquillity. An added touch of luxury and warmth was presented by the elegant antique-look brass accessories that adorned the space.

From the comfort of the window seat, I had a privileged vantage point to observe the tigers, their movements and behaviours, unfolding against the backdrop of the Taiga-inspired landscape.

You can choose the tiger sanctuary like us, but Pairi Daiza offers several other options –  falling asleep with the wolves, waking up near the polar bears or brown bears. Or, you can sleep underwater, and watch the impressive walruses from your room.  The options are vast and we will be back for sure.

Included in our overnight stay were:

  • Access to the Park, from the day of arrival to the day of departure – and I mean that literally. For the ones spending the night, the park is open 24h a day

  • Immersion in the world of “The Last Frontier & The Land of the Cold

  • Handling of our luggage upon arrival

  • Parking reserved for hotel residents

  • Free WIFI

  • Breakfast (American buffet)

  • Evening meal (excluding drinks) at the Park`s restaurants l’Octopus, l’Izba or the Mökki (you do have to make a reservation to one of them but that was very smooth).

  • We heard (afterwards) that there were board games available (on request at the hotel reception) but we were so excited to see the park that we spent the whole day walking around.

Ratings

Location

Stunning location, this animal park has won Best in Class for several years in a row. If you`re an animal lover, Pairi Daiza is a must-see.

Price

An adult entry ticket costs EUR 42, plus your parking ticket, so just visiting will set you back EUR 100. An overnight stay, however, will set you back EUR 770 for one night, 2 people. Well worth trying though, as with the overnight stay you get a half board package and access to the park after closing hours - all through the night.

Venue

As someone who loves animals, this was my Graceland. I would not mind going back several times as eveything about Pairi Daiza was perfect. .

Relaxation

During the day in high season, the park is buzzing with families, however we didn`t find that as disturbing as we thought. The park is certainly big enough, however some areas are more crowded than others.

Verdict

Pairi Daiza’s invitation goes beyond a daytime escapade. It extends an embrace that beckons you to extend your visit into the night, forging a deeper connection with nature and its inhabitants. With the option of an overnight stay, you’re granted the privilege to savour every moment, from twilight to sunrise, in this wondrous sanctuary.
